Surah 103: Al Asar

| আমরা সবসময় মনে রাখি | We Always Remember |​

  • যখন একজন মানুষ মারা যায়, তার সব কাজ শেষ হয়ে যায় , তিনটি ব্যতিক্রম ছাড়া: সদকা জারিয়া (চলমান দান) , এমন জ্ঞান যা থেকে উপকার পাওয়া যায়, এবং একটি সৎ সন্তান যে তার জন্য দোয়া করে । | মুহাম্মদ (সাঃ) ; হাদিস - সহিহ মুসলিম | When a person dies, his works end, except for three: ongoing charity, knowledge that is benefited from, and a righteous child who prays for him. | Prophet Mohammed (PBUH); Hadith - Sahih Muslim |

  • যে ব্যক্তি ভাল কাজের জন্য সুপারিশ করবে, তার জন্য তাতে (সাওয়াবের) অংশ আছে এবং যে মন্দ কাজের জন্য সুপারিশ করবে, তার জন্য তাতে অংশ আছে । আর আল্লাহ সব কিছুর উপর নজর রাখেন । | সূরাঃ ৪ , আন-নিসা , আয়াতঃ : ৮৫ | Whoever intercedes for a good cause will have a reward therefrom; and whoever intercedes for an evil cause will have a burden therefrom. (The Time)​

Surah Al-Asr, the 103rd chapter of the Quran, is a brief yet powerful Surah that addresses the importance of time and the human condition. It was revealed in Makkah and serves as a reminder of the urgency of making the most of our lives. The title "Al-Asr" translates to "The Time," emphasizing the significance of every moment we have. This Surah warns against wasting time on unproductive activities and stresses the importance of living a life filled with faith and good deeds.

The Surah presents a profound message that, despite the challenges and trials of life, success can only be attained through belief in Allah, performing righteous actions, and encouraging one another to seek truth and patience. It serves as a wake-up call for believers to reflect on their priorities and to strive for a life that pleases Allah.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

  1. By time,
  2. Indeed, mankind is in loss,
  3. Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.

What Allah Says​

Surah Al-Asr is a short yet powerful chapter in the Quran, consisting of only three verses. Despite its brevity, it conveys profound lessons about the importance of time, faith, and righteous living.

Allah Swears by Time: The Surah begins with Allah swearing by Time ("By Al-Asr"). In the Quran, when Allah swears by something, it signifies its great importance. Here, Time is highlighted as a crucial element in our lives, emphasizing that every moment we have is precious and should not be wasted. Every creation of Allah, including humans, has a fixed period between birth and death. This time is predetermined for each of us, and it's essential to use every moment for good deeds. Allah’s oath underscores the urgency of recognizing the value of time and encourages us to reflect on how we utilize it. Time never moves backward, even for a single second. Once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.

Mankind is at a Loss: The second verse states, "Indeed, mankind is in loss." This loss refers to the spiritual and moral downfall that comes when people fail to use their time wisely and do not live according to the principles that Allah has set out. It’s a warning that most people, by not recognizing the value of time and their purpose in life, are heading towards failure.

The Exceptions: The third verse outlines the exceptions to this loss: "Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds, and encourage each other to follow the truth, and encourage each other to be patient."

  • Faith: Belief in Allah is the foundation of success in this life and the hereafter.
  • Righteous Deeds: Faith must be accompanied by good actions. Simply believing without acting on that belief is not enough.
  • Encouraging the Truth: True believers are expected to spread the truth and encourage others to live by it.
  • Encouraging Patience: Life is full of challenges, and patience is essential to enduring these trials and remaining steadfast in faith.

Lessons​

Reflections on the Importance of Time: This Surah teaches us that time is one of our most valuable resources. We learn that every moment we have is precious, and wasting it leads to loss. Allah’s emphasis on time reminds us to use it wisely, focusing on our faith, good deeds, and the pursuit of truth and patience.Time never moves backward, not even for a second. Once a moment passes, it is gone forever. This reality serves as a reminder that we must be intentional about how we spend our time, focusing on actions that align with Allah’s guidance.

Reflections on Mankind’s Loss: Allah warns that most of humanity is at risk of loss due to neglecting their purpose and the misuse of time. This loss refers to both the spiritual and moral decline that occurs when we are not mindful of our actions and priorities. The Surah urges us to avoid this loss by staying committed to our faith and righteous living.

Reflections on the Path to Success: Surah Al-Asr provides a clear path to success, highlighting belief, good deeds, truthfulness, and patience as essential qualities. By embodying these virtues, we can avoid the loss that afflicts most of humanity and achieve success in both this life and the Hereafter.

  • O Allah, help me to recognize the value of my time and use it to seek Your pleasure. Guide me to live a life filled with faith and good deeds, making every moment count in preparing for the Hereafter. Ameen.

  • O Allah, protect me from the loss that comes from neglecting my true purpose. Strengthen my faith, and guide me to live in a way that aligns with Your will, avoiding the distractions that lead to spiritual decline. Ameen.

  • O Allah, grant me the qualities of faith, righteousness, truthfulness, and patience. Help me to encourage these virtues in myself and others, leading a life that pleases You and ensures success in this world and the next. Ameen.

পরম দয়ালু, পরম মেহেরবান, আল্লাহর নামে।

  1. সময়ের কসম,
  2. মানুষ অবশ্যই ক্ষতির মধ্যে (ডুবে) আছে,
  3. কিন্তু তারা নয় যারা ঈমান আনে ও সৎকর্ম করে এবং পরস্পরকে সত্যের উপদেশ দেয় এবং পরস্পরকে ধৈর্য ধারণের উপদেশ দেয়।
